The LaBarbara Family moved to Marysville
in 1956 after Joyce and Anthony (Tony), were married.
They raised their family in the District 10 farming area
where Tony farmed and Joyce worked at a local bank.
In 1993 the kiwi market crashed and this
is when Joyce started the $1.00 bag honor system selling
kiwis in the driveway.
Her husband, Tony, turned over a peach bin, painted it pink,
added a coffee can for money, and this is how the fruitstand
came to be. In honor of Joyce's memory, the $1.00 per bag tradition
has continued and has expanded to include pomegranates, persimmons, oranges,
mandarins and nuts Original
customers still stop to this day and purchase kiwis for
$1.00 per bag.
In the years that followed kiwi vineyards were replaced with
peach orchards.
In 2004, Tony retired and their daughter Jerralee quit her job to
manage the family business. Since that time, and
through the years we have enjoyed the opportunity to grow
and expand our roadside farm stand as well as our customer
base. Customers used to comment
that the road leading to the fruitstand was bumpy, with deep
ruts. Now the road is conditioned each year with pea
gravel to overcome this and help to keep the dust down.
Our family's fine tradition of growing and selling the
finest quality of local products involves dedicated staff so
you have a wonderful, fruitful customer experience.
It is exciting to know that our customers have been a part
of sustaining a long standing farm and family tradition.
We relish the thought of continuing to serve our many
friends in the coming years.
We hope you enjoy your experience at Tony's Fruitstand.
If you have questions regarding farming or our produce,
please inquire.
We also invite you to join our mailing list. This will
allow us to notify you in advance when freestone peaches
become available.
